Is residential solar becoming harder? New grid-connection standards for solar power take effect on July 1

2026-07-06

The standard has been renamed from the former Utility Interface Technical Specification to a comprehensive Technical Requirements for Grid Connection. The core shift is that power grids no longer merely require PV equipment to connect to power lines passively. Instead, mandatory constraints are imposed on system operational stability and grid adaptability. The three major revisions are detailed as follows:

I. Mandatory Low Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) Index Added: No Immediate Disconnection Upon Grid Faults

1. When the voltage drops to zero, the system shall stay grid-connected for no less than 150 milliseconds;

2. When the voltage falls to 20% of the nominal value, stable grid-tied operation shall last at least 625 milliseconds;

3. Under high-voltage conditions where voltage rises to 130% of the nominal value, grid connection shall be maintained for over 500 milliseconds.

II. Adaptive Frequency Regulation Introduced: Active Output Adjustment Under Abnormal Grid Loads

When the grid frequency deviates from the nominal 50 Hz and exceeds the allowable dead band (±0.06 Hz to ±0.2 Hz), the inverter shall automatically adjust its power generation output. The frequency regulation coefficient ranges from 1 to 50. The power adjustment response time shall be ≤ 3 seconds, with control error limited within 1%.

III. Comprehensive Refinement of Data Collection Standards: Full Operation Data Upload Every 15 Minutes

The old standard only required PV equipment to upload basic power generation data. Chapter 12 of the new standard specifies detailed data collection rules: all operational parameters including point-of-connection voltage, current, active/reactive power, cumulative power generation, and grid-tied operating status shall be collected and uploaded at intervals not exceeding 15 minutes.
